7 Plus 7 (Apted, 1971)

Second part of the now seven part series. This one has the subjects at 14, their reactions varying from nervousness to disinterest. Apted skillfully justaposes the first film’s black and white images with the new color ones, giving a sense of development the now adolescents will undoubedtly find haunting later in the series. From here on out, the films are features, and sure to dwell longer and with a more inquisitive eye to the stories behind each fascinating subject. Right now, Paul and Simon seem the most sincere and kind, interestingly they are the two subjects picked from the orphanage. Damn this is an amazing experiment, but will the filmmakers drastically change the way these kids would have grown up had their been no series?
